Joe Bañez serves as an Assistant Director within the Office of Congressional & Governmental Affairs. In this role he is charged with advancing the association's advocacy on issues involving science and research funding, technology and intellectual property, and advanced manufacturing, among others.
Prior to joining APLU, Joe worked in the Office of Government Relations at the Association of American Medical Colleges where he focused on budget and appropriations, research, public health, and student financial aid issues. His other experience includes working in the Office of Legislative Affairs for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and on Capitol Hill for Congressman Henry Waxman.
Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from California State University (CSU) Chico. As a proud product of the CSU system, he pays it forward by connecting students, interns, and graduates through his leadership in the DC based CSU alumni network.
