Emily van Loon, CPA began her tenure as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of APLU in November 2011. Her role at APLU includes managing the finance and IT departments and serving as the liaison between APLU and member university business officers. She is licensed as a CPA by the State of Maryland and is a member of AICPA, NACUBO, The Greater Washington Society of CPAs and the Maryland Association of CPAs. van Loon came to work at APLU after an extensive career as the CFO of SOME, Inc. (So Others Might Eat), a Washington, D.C. non-profit that provides an array of services to the poor. In addition to her financial management work, van Loon has extensive IT experience. She is featured in The Nonprofit Challenge: Integrating Ethics into the Purpose and Promise of Our Nation’s Charities, by Doug White who is the Director of Columbia University’s master of science in fundraising management program.
van Loon is a graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. and lives in Takoma Park, MD with her husband Thom Wolf. Emily is actively involved in many Takoma Park community issues and can often be seen walking her dog Nola around town.
