APLU’s Shalin Jyotishi was featured during this month’s member spotlight by the Engaging Scientists and Engineers in Policy (ESEP) Coalition, an ad hoc alliance of associations, scientific societies, universities and other organizations dedicated to engaging scientists and engineers in the policy process at all levels of government. Jyotishi discussed his own pathway into science and technology policy. Read the spotlight and engage in the conversation on the ESEP Coalition’s online community on Trellis Science.

APLU’s Shalin Jyotishi discussed engaging university students, policy fellows, and young scholars in science, technology, and innovation policy through the Journal of Science Policy & Governance during a webinar hosted by the Government-University-Industry-Research-Roundtable (GUIRR) at the National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). Jyotishi serves as the CEO of the journal, an internationally recognized peer review publication dedicated to empowering university students and early-career trainees. View the webinar recording here.

Woodell to Speak on Economic Engagement at Kansas Board of Regents Meeting

Vice President, Economic Development and Community Engagement
Jim Woodell, APLU’s Vice President for Economic Development and Community Engagement, will speak about the importance of engagement by higher education institutions in economic and community development at an upcoming meeting of the Kansas Board of Regents in Kansas City. He will also speak at the Kansas State University Research Showcase and recognize K-State’s achievements in economic engagement as evidenced by the institution’s designation by APLU as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) University and K-State's winning the IEP Universities Innovation Award in 2017.

Craig Lindwarm, APLU's Assistant Vice President for Congressional & Governmental Affairs, spoke to the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students at their spring Advocacy Summit. His presentation helped prepare the students for advocating on concerns related to the PROSPER Act. 
APLU's Anderson Presented at AAHHE on Creating STEM Pathways

Vice President, Access and Success
Eugene Anderson, APLU's Vice President for Access and Success, presented at the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) on creating pathways for Latina/o students in STEM fields. He examined trends in engineering degrees awarded to Latina/o students and discussed broadening the participation of Latina/o students in engineering.
APLU's Miller to Speak on University of Texas System Data's Transparency Panel

Vice President for Research & Policy Analysis

Elise Miller, APLU's Vice President for Research and Policy Analysis, will speak at a University of Texas System panel examining data transparency in higher education on March 27. The University of Texas System has pioneered a tool, seekUT, allowing prospective students to explore employment and earnings outcomes for former students who attended University of Texas System institutions. Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the seekUT tool is soon launching a new version aggregating outcomes for former students living not only in Texas, but across the United States.

APLU's Woodell Named to National Alliance for Broader Impacts Advisory Board

Vice President, Economic Development and Community Engagement
Jim Woodell, APLU's Vice President of Economic Development and Community Engagement, has been named to the National Alliance for Broader Impacts Advisory Board. The National Alliance for Broader Impacts (NABI) is an international network of individuals and organizations working to build institutional capacity, advance broader impacts, and demonstrate the societal benefits of research. Woodell will also be a keynote speaker at a NABI meeting in April.
