2017 Challenge of Change: Harnessing University Discovery, Engagement, and Learning to Achieve Food and Nutrition Security

May 16, 2017
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Historically, public and land-grant universities have been instrumental in solving food and agricultural challenges both at home and abroad. But today’s food and nutrition security issues have grown in complexity—they are multidimensional, interdisciplinary, and multinational. They occur in conflict zones around the globe, in areas severely impacted by weather-related shocks, and even on our own campuses.

APLU, an association of more than 230 public research universities in North America, established the Challenge of Change Commission, with funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The Challenge of Change is charged with examining contemporary challenges to food and nutrition security and making recommendations on the actions required by universities to accelerate their discovery, learning, and engagement in order to meet the challenges associated with a food and nutrition secure world.

Join APLU and the Challenge of Change commission as we launch the the findings of the report and discuss how universities, working with partners from the local community as well as the private and public sectors, can help to achieve global food and nutrition security.
