Starting Date Review of applications will begin July 31, 2018, and date of hire will be September 1, 2018 or after until a suitable applicant is hired.
General Duties and Responsibilities The applicant should have demonstrated potential for leading a research and teaching program in sensor developments for biological applications. Job duties will be to (1) establish an integrated teaching and research program focused on the development of advanced sensory techniques, including spectroscopy, for biological applications, and (2) to contribute effectively to a team of plant biologists, physicists, biochemists and engineers collaborating to translate fundamental quantum physics and spectroscopic techniques into functional systems that address agricultural and industrial needs. The incumbent will be expected to direct graduate student research, establish a publication record, to include intellectual property development and patents, and attract extramural funding sufficient to support an active research program. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses based on departmental needs and the individual’s expertise. The incumbent will advise both undergraduate and graduate students. Professional improvement efforts and an appropriate level of service to the institution, editorial and funding review processes and professional societies at the national and local levels are expected.


Required Education/Experience
By date of appointment, incumbent must have earned a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline, engineering or physics, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: sensor development, optical spectroscopy (including Raman spectroscopy), or cyber-physical systems.

In addition, the applicant should have effective verbal and written English skills, the ability to work both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member, and the ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Licensed, or ability to become licensed, as a professional engineer.

Demonstrated success in grantsmanship, innovative and effective instruction in related subject matter.
