Assistant Professor Industrial/Organizational Psychology

The Department of Psychology at South Dakota State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in our Masters of Science program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology to begin in August 2018. We invite qualified individuals to apply for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. We are interested in I/O candidates with either a strong background in Organizational Psychology or Industrial Psychology. We are also very interested in candidates with a strong statistical/psychometric background. Candidates are sought with a commitment to teaching and the ability to establish an active research program that involves students. Responsibilities: Teaching/advising, research, and service make up the professional role. The planned teaching load is five courses per academic year, which includes four graduate and one undergraduate course. Teaching responsibilities can include traditional Organizational Psychology areas (e.g., Organizational Development, Leadership and Motivation, and Teams), traditional Industrial Psychology areas (e.g., Personnel Selection, Performance Appraisal, Training), and/or psychometrics and statistics/research methods courses (e.g., Tests and Measurement, Work Attitudes Theory and Measurement), and other courses as needed. An active research program that involves students and will produce publications and regional/national presentations is expected. New faculty members are provided with basic research support including lab space and the opportunity to apply for startup funds. Graduate courses will be delivered face-to-face on the SDSU main campus in Brookings, SD. The yearly undergraduate course may be delivered either face-to-face or online. Limited department, college and/or university service is also expected.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:  

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology at the time of appointment in August 2018. Applicants should have a strong background in Organizational Psychology or Industrial Psychology evidenced through coursework and research expertise. In addition, advanced training in statistics and psychometrics is desired. applicant should be able to sustain an active research agenda involving graduate students. A strong interest in teaching graduate and undergraduate students is also expected. It is also desired that applicants have grant-writing experience and experience in teaching online courses. We also seek applicants who are open to networking with organizations in the surrounding area.

The candidate should articulate a commitment to principles of affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity. Effective oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal relations skills, and a commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching are required.

SDSU is a land grant institution and the state's largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of over 12,800 students. We currently have eight full-time faculty and several adjunct faculty.

SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of approximately 23,000 near the east central border of South Dakota on Interstate 29. The city has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment, and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance. It is 50 miles north of Sioux Falls, a city of close to 170,000.
