The University of Florida Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing is entering an exciting new chapter of growth and innovation with a new structure and a new Vice President of Strategic Communications and Marketing. UF is rising, and we want you to rise right along with us. The division is seeking a highly qualified professional for the role of Assistant Vice President for Communications. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader attuned to organizational culture, who excels at cultivating relationships and garners the trust and confidence of leadership, faculty, staff and students. This individual will possess exceptional communications skills, will thrive in a fast-paced environment oriented toward growth and innovation, and will demonstrate commitment to serving as a mentor and teacher for others.
The AVP for Communications will work collaboratively with a new AVP for Marketing. The AVPs will have the unique opportunity to develop and implement the strategic imperatives and organizational development efforts to actualize the university’s new overall strategic communications and marketing plan. Together, these leaders will elevate UF’s stature and positively position the university as a leader in higher education, national and internationally.
You will use your expertise and skills in internal and external communications to create an exceptional communications operation that advances and protects UF’s mission and reputation. You will lead an effective team of communications professionals and a network of campus communicators to greater innovation and synergy. You will enhance and strengthen the current communications infrastructure, develop relationships with influential media channels and collaborate with campus partners on unified messaging.
In this role, you can expect to:
Build and lead an effective team in the areas of media relations and content management, stakeholder communications, issues management and crisis communications to advance and protect the reputation of the University of Florida.
Enhance and strengthen the university’s issues and crisis communications infrastructure. Identify issues and trends that may affect the image and perception of the university and recommend proactive and responsive communications strategies. Advise senior administration and serve on a team as a spokesperson for the university.
Develop relationships with influential media channels. Create and implement innovative strategies for positioning the university as a thought leader nationally and internationally.
Create and lead development and implementation of a strategic internal communications function. Establish organizational messaging and communications plans in support of university strategic goals, plans and positioning. Develop key performance indicators for effective reporting and evaluation.
Partner with colleges and other units on campus to ensure the development and distribution of unified messaging and the effective use of communications vehicles.
Meet regularly with members of the President's Cabinet and deans, directors and department heads and institutional communicators to counsel and create communications strategies to advance their strategic goals.
