Assistant/Associate Professor and Extension Specialist

WORKING TITLE: Assistant/Associate Professor and Extension Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: Assistant/Associate Professor (75% Public Service and Outreach; 25% Research), 12-month, tenure-track or tenured upon appointment in the Department of Foods and Nutrition who will serve as an Extension Specialist in the area of human nutrition and health promotion for limited resource audiences.

As a member of the Foods and Nutrition Department, the new faculty member will: 1) Provide program leadership and serve as Principal Investigator (PI) for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and/or other externally funded nutrition education programs for limited resource households; 2) Engage in collaborations to develop grant proposals to obtain external funding for nutrition education programs and provide educational programs targeted to limited resource households; 3) Develop, implement and evaluate program content for eligible individuals and families; 4) Provide expertise in nutrition and innovative educational approaches including program evaluation to county Extension agents and other partners; 5) Work collaboratively to explore new technology as appropriate to enhance knowledge and initiate behavior change; 6) Enhance research opportunities for graduate students and engage students in nutrition/health-related community outreach and Extension programs for limited resource audiences; 7) Serve as a conduit for nutrition and health expertise to be communicated to Extension agents and other outreach partners and provide nutrition research updates to County Extension Agents; 8) Develop and/or revise nutrition/foods program content and assessment tools; 9) Publish findings in refereed journals; 10) Network at national, regional and state levels to communicate research findings with key leaders and enhance program development to ensure implementation with an on-going evaluation component; 11) Support 4-H programs through leadership for and participation in foods and nutrition project competitions and development of educational materials and initiatives for 4-H audiences. The successful candidate will be committed to the Cooperative Extension mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree appropriate for the discipline

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for the position of Assistant Professor, the applicant must have a Ph.D. (at time of appointment) in nutrition, public health, or a related field; demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively on Extension programs; show evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills; and have a history of working with limited resource audiences (e.g., EFNEP, SNAP-Ed, etc.). The applicant should have demonstrated scholarly competence and research productivity, or the potential for such. To be considered for the position of Associate Professor, the applicant should meet the above qualifications; have attained tenure at a comparable university or have at least four years of experience at the Assistant Professor rank; show evidence of a high quality Extension and research publication record; demonstrate a record of success with external funding; and demonstrate an outstanding record of research productivity. To be considered for the Associate Professor level, candidates should demonstrate clear and convincing evidence of emerging stature as a regional or national authority as appropriate for the position. To be eligible for tenure on appointment, candidates must be appointed as an Associate Professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. The applicant must be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist holding licensure or secure licensure in the state of Georgia within two years of employment.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR COMPETENCIES: Candidates for the Assistant Professor rank that can demonstrate evidence in preparation and submission of external research grants are preferred. Candidates for the Associate Professor rank with at least one funded research grant as PI are preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of Cooperative Extension and at least two years of experience in program administration for limited resource audiences such as EFNEP, SNAP-ED, etc. are preferred.
