Colorado State University, Fort Collins seeks qualified candidates to apply for the position of Associate Director (AD) of Community and Economic Development. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Engagement, the AD plays a lead role in accomplishing Colorado State University’s engagement goals. The position is headquartered in Fort Collins with frequent state and national travel.
The Associate Director of Community and Economic Development reports to the Associate Vice President for Engagement on the main campus at CSU Fort Collins. This is a full-time, 12-month regular administrative professional appointment. The position works with elected officials at the local, county, state, and national levels to enhance the profile and influence of the university and the Office of Engagement, positioning the university as a partner of choice for regions statewide, nationally and globally.
The position is responsible for making decisions about resources and staffing related to the Office of Engagement’s expanded presence in regional economic development, including the continued development of regional engagement Hubs. The Associate Director has responsibilities for the entire state, with an emphasis on rural Colorado. This position will work jointly with the Assistant Vice President for Engagement/Deputy Director of Extension to advance the broader vision and capacity of the Office of Engagement, and will serve as a liaison to campus units in building internal strategic partnerships.
Engagement and outreach is central to Colorado State University’s Land Grant mission. In 2006, CSU created what is now the Office of Engagement (OE) to renovate and infuse a culture of innovation into its engagement divisions, to create new pathways for the people of Colorado to access its talent and creative culture, and to create a comprehensive engaged 21st century Land Grant University. Divisions and programs of the Office of Engagement include CSU Extension, CSU Online, the Colorado Water Institute, Community and Economic Development, and the CSU Regional Engagement Hubs.
The Office of Engagement seeks an Associate Director who is:
- A leader who can facilitate successful relationships and foster connections among Colorado’s local, county, state, and national elected officials and other external stakeholder communities;
- A collaborator who can create and support actions and programs that achieve the engagement goals of the CSU strategic plan;
- A communicator who can advance the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through capacity building and strategic team management.
The candidate must have a completed Bachelor’s Degree or above from an accredited institution in a liberal arts or applied field directly related to human organization and administration. Examples include public administration or finance, business and economic development, community development, sociology, and public policy. In addition, the candidate must have at least four years of demonstrated prior experience with economic development, community development, or public governance; at least four years of demonstrated prior experience participating in collaborative relationships with county and state agencies and elected officials; and at least three years of demonstrated prior experience supervising one or more staff members.
