Budget Specialist

Location: Moscow

Division/College: University Research (Div)

Pay Range: $13.50 - $16.65 per hour

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of fiscal processes and oversees budgets that support the portfolio of programs and investigators of the Office of Research and Economic Fiscal Support Unit managers. Works with a high degree of independence and has an advanced understanding of the rules and regulations associated with sponsored projects, as well as best practices for financial management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of: accounting theory, general office support functions

2-5 years bookkeeping experience

Experience in: Accounting principles and practices; computerized accounting and management information systems, current worksheet and word processing software; maintaining accounts and accounting systems; analyzing and interpreting financial information; developing financial reports; researching and analyzing data; making projections; monitoring budgets including allocating funds , expenditures and reconciling accounts.

Ability to: organize, prioritize, work independently and accurately; utilize excellent communications and interpersonal skills; work in pressure situations and maintain a friendly and professional attitude; handle conflicts and sensitive issues tactfully.

Skill in: operating a personal computer, 10 key calculator and other office equipment; communicating effectively orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

College coursework in accounting; relevant work experience may be substituted

Two years grants management experience

Good knowledge of UI processes and procedures

Familiarity with University of Idaho accounting and personnel Banner database systems; ability to work well with a variety of clients (students, faculty, administrators, regulatory, and vendors); demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; demonstrated ability to identify and initiate tasks needed to complete projects; demonstrated ability to work independently and use good judgment in dealing with individuals from all cultures and backgrounds; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality while managing highly sensitive documents and information; demonstrated dependability and ability to exercise initiative with a very strong work ethic; demonstrated leadership, organizational, and decision-making abilities; demonstrated ability to supervise staff; provide accurate and timely information and handle complex problems courteously and efficiently; familiarity of University of Idaho policies, business procedures, and organizational structure.

May be required to lift or otherwise move up to 25 lbs.
