Washington State University, Tri-Cities campus, invites applications for a resident faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching foundational and college level pre-calculus and calculus courses. The successful candidate will be expected to utilize high impact, student centered pedagogical practices in all courses and be informed on current research-based practices in mathematics education used to foster student success.
The division of responsibilities in this mathematics faculty position will be 70% teaching (a respective teaching load of four plus three courses per academic year) and 20% service and 10% scholarship. Service would include oversight of the mathematics program on the Tri-Cities campus, including scheduling math classes and being the liaison to the Department Chair on the Pullman campus. Other service activities include mentoring undergraduate student research, participation in campus student recruitment, and/or participation in faculty governance committee work. Areas of scholarly work might include the dissemination or publishing of results from research in any area of mathematics including contributions to the pedagogical literature in mathematics education.
Duties and responsibilities:
•Teach seven undergraduate pre-calculus courses per academic year
•Direction of the mathematics program on the Tri-Cities campus, including course scheduling. Must act as a liaison to the Department chair in Pullman on issues of course content and development, and coordination of courses across the Pullman and Tri-Cities campuses. Act as liaison to the Department Chair on personnel issues.
•Meet other university service requirements through student mentoring, recruitment activities, and committee membership
•Conduct scholarly research focused ether on mathematics education and/or in an area of the faculty member’s preference
This faculty position is a 9-month appointment for two (2) years with possible re-appointment pending academic evaluation of teaching and scholarship efforts. The faculty member will also have opportunities to teach during the summer sessions.
The location of the position is at the WSU Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA, but the position is associated with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the main campus in Pullman, WA. Salary is commensurate with training and experience.
