The Oklahoma State University Communications Office provides strategic support of university initiatives, programs and research. We work closely with OSU branch campuses, colleges and departments to identify and share stories that highlight OSU accomplishments, faculty and students, as well as further OSU's land-grant mission by providing content that improves the lives of people in Oklahoma, the nation, and the world. Our professional services include internal and external communications, media relations, digital media, video production, web development, event planning, open records processing, crisis response and the production of many other print and electronic publications that tell the OSU story.
As part of Oklahoma State University's digital communications team, this position supports the university's digital marketing strategies across all channels to enhance brand awareness among prospective students and their families, current students, alumni, fans, donors and other internal and external populations. This is an entry level communications specialist position responsible for processing all university open records requests, media inquiries and general customer service requests for OSU Communications. Position also responsible for writing, developing and distributing content which supports the university's objectives through press releases, advisories and web media as well as providing administrative support to the Director of Communications. Detailed duties include: Facilitate open records requests received by OSU. This includes intake, legal processing, data/record review & distribution. Provide office management & administrative support for OSU Communications Director.
This includes: handling meeting requests, event planning, managing phone lines. Plan and write content for email, digital platforms and mobile including blog posts, articles, newsletters, social media content, text alerts. Collaborate with teams across multiple departments, colleges, and units on projects and stories including Enrollment Management and Marketing, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and others. Identify story opportunities to enhance the reputation of Oklahoma State University. Assist in the coordination and evaluation of OSU’s email marketing campaigns, push notifications and external communication processes. Use data and research to evaluate the impact of content and push for continuous improvement. Create and distribute press releases for local, regional media outlets. Support OSU’s overall retention goals and efforts by collaborating on projects, providing supporting content for student communication efforts. Assist with event coordination when applicable.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field and three years of related experience including one year of experience in administrative/clerical support. Education may be substituted in lieu of experience requirement. Superb organizational skills and project tracking capabilities. Excellent writing skills with ability to draft content adjusting for reader preferences, platform abilities, etc. Proficiency in all Microsoft formats (Excel, Word, Powerpoint). Proficiency in publishing software such as Adobe Indesign, Illustrator or Photoshop Knowledge of media needs regarding deadlines. Ability to edit content in an accurate, efficient manner.
Prefer candidate with knowledge of campaign management utilizing paid, owned and earned channels. Excellent, highly creative communication and critical-thinking skills. 5 years of experience in writing and content management. Familiarity with managing web content. At ease managing multiple projects, setting stakeholder expectations, working individually and collaborating across teams. Familiarity with social media platforms such as: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
