Communications Specialist

Under the general direction of the College's Manager for Marketing and Communications, the Communications Specialist develops and implements a comprehensive digital outreach plan to promote the College of Human Sciences and its four academic units. The Communications Specialist's responsibilities will focus on digital engagement and promoting College news, events, storytelling and other information via social media. The individual will create multimedia content, videos, social media and other projects to advance the College's strategies to engage with current and prospective students, alumni, friends and donors. The Communications Specialist manages the primary College social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat and helps coordinate the messaging on other social media channels, including those of the four academic departments/school, College centers and institutes and outreach clinics. General Responsibilities: Collaborate with the academic departments and administrative units to develop and execute robust and diverse social media and digital content plans, including the development of a calendar to document ongoing and sustainable content. Oversee College and department social media community management, including monitoring, interaction with audiences, customer service and conducting skillful data analysis to draw actionable conclusions and operational efficiencies as it relates to digital content. Serve as a visionary for social media and digital content strategy, provide subject matter expertise in social and digital media and develop College guidelines and best-practice protocols.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, journalism, public relations, english, interactive media or related discipline. Two to three years of experience in social media creation. Experience with implementing social media strategy and brand marketing. Proficiency and experience with multiple social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram and have experience in developing and deploying diverse digital content via social media that spurs discussion and engagement with various digital communities (text, photo, video). Proficient with both PC and Mac computer systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, or similar), Hootsuite, email marketing service platforms (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar), paid social media tools and tactics (paid social advertising), video and editing tools (Final Cut, iMovie), analytics (Google, Hootsuite, in platform) and new media platforms. Strong writing and editing skills, specifically for social media platforms; knowledge of proofreading and appropriate style guides. Analytical skills, including in-depth knowledge data analytics and metric reporting (SEO, keyword research, Google Analytics, in platform metrics and other methods). Knowledge of trends in social media, multimedia and digital publishing techniques and the ability to anticipate audience needs in regard to planning and organizing cutting-edge, continually evolving digital strategy and communications best practices. Ability to quickly grasp complex subject matter. Ability to assess situations rapidly in a fast-paced environment, develop creative and cost-effective ways to solve problems and establish cooperative working relationships with other campus units as well as external vendors. Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in group settings with a positive can-do demeanor. Ability to handle multiple projects at a given time and to establish and meet deadlines in a productive manner; attention to detail is essential.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in graphic design, photography and video production. Skills in shooting and editing photography for social media that can be shared online. Knowledge of video creation and editing (especially via mobile). Experience with video story boarding, shooting, editing and posting to social media and web pages.
