The Communications Assistant will implement media planning, public relations, and stakeholder outreach and engagement activities for the UI Rangeland Center within the College of Natural Resources. This position will be responsible for developing web content, maintaining social media outlets, e-newsletters and other writing/editing functions as needed to support faculty, students, and stakeholder involvement in rangeland topics related to wildlife management, wildfire, invasive weed, and grazing. The Communications Assistant will work with an interdisciplinary team of Rangeland Center staff and external stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic communications plan to facilitate communication among university researchers, state and federal agencies, local government, and private landowners. The position will provide educational outreach opportunities to increase awareness of research, management and use of Idaho's rangelands. This position will work with University of Idaho Communications and Marketing to ensure cohesive messaging. The candidate should be eager to learn and grow in this role and possess a professional attitude, strong attention to detail, and excellent organization skills. A basic understanding of rangelands, natural resources, and related subject matter is beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Two years professional work experience in public communications/media, natural resources or agriculture with an emphasis on external communication, or related experience. • Strong organizational and project management skills as demonstrated in previous experience. • Experience with using social media to promote and increase awareness. • Strong attention to detail and editing skills. • Experience working in a collaborative, team environment. • Proficient in Microsoft Office desktop applications.
Previous education or work experience in the natural resource field. • Previous experience in writing engaging content on current rangeland topics, press releases, event planning, and developing marketing material.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Occasional travel may be required. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
