Community Nutrition Advisor I

Location: Coeur d’Alene

Position Summary:

Provide education and support for the Eat Smart Idaho Program in the areas of nutrition, food safety, and food resource management to eligible, limited-resource participants including food stamp recipients, food stamp eligible youth and adult audiences. This position will be based out of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrate ability to: understand nutritional challenges faced by limited income families and to be empathetic with challenges faced by low-income persons.

Good oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.

Basic knowledge of: nutrition, food safety, and food resource management.

Willingness to: be self-motivated; work with diverse audience; lead groups in physical activity; work number of hours specified in a two week pay period; participate in University of Idaho curriculum training and job orientation; participate in regularly scheduled University of Idaho educational trainings.

Ability to: teach and speak publicly; keep detailed and accurate records; maintain equipment/supplies; work independently, receive supervision; travel to provide education in specified areas of Northern Idaho, work flexible hours, occasional weekends, after regular business hours.

Some knowledge of: computer operation and software programs.

Must possess: own transportation and ability to travel to multiple worksites; high school diploma or completion of high school equivalency or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of: support systems, networks, and agency programs available for low-income people.

Experience in: marketing programs at agency sites and working cooperatively with agencies that target limited resource families; working with people from varying socio-economic backgrounds; using problem solving skills to help others identify alternatives; developing lesson plans and teaching groups of people; managing a caseload and the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records; using PowerPoint and Excel.

Knowledge or teaching experience: related to nutrition, food safety, food resource management, and physical activity topics, guidelines and best practices.

Possess: valid driver’s license.
