Academic Career & Executive Search is pleased to assist Auburn University in their search for the Dean of the College of Human Sciences (CHS). 

The Dean is the College’s chief academic and administrative officer and provides the vision and leadership to enrich the College’s excellence in teaching, research, service, outreach, and diversity. The Dean is also an Associate Director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, college liaison to the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Academic Administrator of the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center, and the Executive Director of the Hunger Solutions Institute. The position reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a vision for CHS’s future

  • Can lead faculty and staff in creating and achieving common goals

  • Has a solid record of innovative program development and enhancement

  • Is skilled at balancing operational and financial requirements

  • Has teaching, scholarly research, and administrative abilities

  • Shows history of community involvement

  • Is strong in cultivating business, alumni, and external foundation partnerships for program funding

  • Has proven success in assessing academic programs and their impact

The successful candidate has the quantifiable ability to:

  • Lead a growing organization and build consensus among various stakeholders

  • Foster excellence in research, scholarship, and outreach

  • Promote student achievement and advancement

  • Enhance external, corporate and alumni relations

  • Assertively fundraise

  • Effectively represent the College to outside constituencies (alumni, business and community)

  • Develop a strategic plan for a research focused College

  • Coordinate multiple discipline programs

Qualifications and experience

Candidates must:

  • Be a tenured full professor

  • Have an earned doctorate or commensurate credential

  • Show academic and/or professional accomplishments meriting a full professor tenured appointment

  • Be experienced in administration, fiscal management, strategic planning, faculty/staff development

  • Fundraising experience is highly desired

  • Understand the RCM budgeting system and other models used in higher education

About the College

The College of Human Sciences prepares students to be change makers through the pursuit of professional excellence, an awareness of their role as global citizens and the power of philanthropy. Over 1,300 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students are enrolled in three departments (Consumer and Design Sciences, Human Development and Family Studies, and Nutrition, Dietetics, and Hospitality Management). CHS has six Bachelor of Science programs (with a seventh to be added pending approval by ACHE in December) and Master of Science and Ph.D. programs in all academic departments.

About the Community

Auburn is a thriving community recognized as one of America’s best small towns with a moderate climate and easy access to major cities or beach and mountain recreation. Situated along the rapidly developing I-85 Atlanta, Georgia, and Montgomery, Alabama corridor, the combined Auburn-Opelika-Columbus area has a 500,000+ population, excellent public school systems, and regional medical centers.
