Position Summary:

The AERS Department Head will lead a diverse and vibrant faculty that conducts integrated and comprehensive research, teaching, Extension and outreach programs to support a resilient agricultural economy and rural communities. This position will be responsible for guiding the growth and quality of AERS's academic programs, research and scholarly activities, external funding through competitive grants and development, and delivery of exceptional Extension programming across Idaho. The Department Head will lead the effort to further advance national and international recognition of AERS's innovative interdisciplinary programs.

AERS currently has 17 tenure-track faculty and 2 non-tenure track faculty, located primarily on the University of Idaho main campus in Moscow, as well as on the campus of the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, and in Montpelier. AERS faculty have research and Extension programs that address critical and complex issues in agriculture, environment and natural resources, and regional and community development relevant to the state and beyond, often in interdisciplinary partnerships and with stakeholders.

The academic programs of the department include a B.S. in Agricultural Economics, with emphasis areas in Agribusiness and Applied Economics. A growing enrollment of over 125 full time undergraduate students includes classroom and many experiential learning opportunities and a strong industry-student connection. The new and unique Agricultural Commodity Risk Management program, in collaboration with the Barker Capital Management and Trading Program in the College of Business and Economics, gives students experience trading agricultural commodities and managing margins using real money portfolios. AERS also has a nationally recognized M.S. in Applied Economics, with a successful record of graduate placement in industry and distinguished PhD programs.

This is an Academic Year appointment and Summer Salary will be provided.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Earned PhD in Agricultural Economics, Economics or closely related field.

•Qualifications to meet tenure at the rank of Professor in the department.

•Nationally recognized research record.

•Excellence in teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students.

•Demonstrated leadership experience and administrative skills.

•Experience within an institution of higher education or a research institute.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Fiscal management skills, such as experience in administering grant or departmental budgets.

•Experience in human resource management, and compliance with university policies pertaining to hiring of faculty and staff.

•Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups, including both internal and external stakeholders.

•Evidence of commitment to diversity and success in building an organizational culture and environment of team building, mutual respect and support.

•Significant record of success in obtaining extramural funding from nationally competitive research programs, private industry or other donors.

•Experience in a land-grant university.
