Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) and the Office of Research, Innovation and Sponsored Programs invite applications for the position of Director for the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Program (ICEP). Reporting to the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Sponsored Programs, this position will lead the university’s first Innovation and Commercialization Center for Entrepreneurs (ICCE). The successful candidate will develop the overall strategic plan for the Center and be responsible for the operational budget and fiscal operations to administer the program. The successful candidate will also provide leadership, resources and support to the Center’s research commercialization through start-up companies based on PVAMU innovation and collaboration with the ICCE administration and the Office of Development. Additionally, this position will collaborate with PVAMU Centers, Institutes and other academic units in planning, developing and coordinating the development of applied and translational research among faculty and staff to develop partnerships with industry, business agencies and government entities to expand the PVAMU portfolio with funding, patenting new ideas and working with external industries.
The successful candidate must be able to establish strong working relationships with the Texas Department of Economic Development and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as well as relevant chambers of commerce. Engaging with the venture capital community and regional entrepreneur talent pool to create a network of resources benefiting faculty and programs at the Center is an essential part of this role. Advocating on behalf of the ICCE and with the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, the State Governor’s Office and the General Assembly on all activities related to economic development are also essential aspects of this position.
Prairie View A&M University, a member of the Texas A&M University System, is a public land grant university located 45 miles northwest of Houston, Texas, the nation’s fourth largest city. It has an enrollment of more than 9,400 students and offers bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines. The University’s target service area for undergraduate, graduate and outreach programs includes the Texas Gulf Coast Region; the rapidly growing residential and commercial area known as the Northwest Houston Corridor; and urban Texas centers.
QUALIFICATIONS: Interested applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field and ten (10) years of related experience in Management. Ph.D. or J.D. preferred.
