The Office of the Chancellor now invites applications for the position of Director of Finance and Budget for the WSU Health Sciences Spokane campus.
The Director of Finance and Budget serves as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, oversees and directs the University Finance Office, and collaborates with Grants and Contracts staff. This position provides leadership, coordinating and assisting administrative activities and operations of the campus within the context of a dynamic state-wide University system. This position is responsible for strategic planning and budgeting of University funds and resources. The Director provides recommendations to the Chancellor regarding budget information and leads the campus through budget implementation.
Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field with an accounting emphasis and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and business management which has included supervisory and facilities management experience. A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field and/or CPA certification may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements: Five (5) years of experience as a budget/finance administrator that include supervisory responsibilities for multiple staff. Demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of PC-based and mainframe computer finance and administrative systems. Significant experience as an office administrator and personnel supervisor. Demonstrated ability to achieve and facilitate harmonious working relationships with others. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask in a challenging environment while meeting required deadlines. Must possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree or professional accreditation in business or accounting administration or related field. Demonstrated experience as a budget and finance administrator in a comprehensive research university. Demonstrated knowledge of budget management, projections, and reporting at college, university, or to external agencies. Extensive professional experience in managing complex fiscal areas. Experience with strategic budgeting and planning processes. Experience working with teams of professionals. Experience working with rapidly growing and changing organizations. Experience using automated accounting systems.
