Executive Associate Dean

Applications are invited for the Executive Associate Dean (EAD) of Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Agriculture (COA).  The EAD assists the Dean with all aspects of academic life within the College, including budgets, teaching, research and personnel matters involving faculty, staff and students. The successful candidate will possess outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to serve as an articulate and zealous advocate for the COA.  This position reports to the Vice President for Agriculture who also serves as the Dean of the COA and Chancellor of the LSU Agricultural Center (AgCenter).  The VP/Dean administers all agricultural teaching programs under the COA, along with the research and extension programs of the LSU AgCenter campus.  This position will have in depth responsibility for the college’s activities since the Dean also has responsibility for administering the AgCenter. 

Job Duties:

Assist the Dean in developing, implementing and maintaining strategies to promote excellence in the activities of COA including:

  • A strong recruitment program that facilitates continued growth in student enrollment and increased diversity.
  • Outstanding student services and valued support for COA students.
  • Development of outstanding programs in the COA including supporting academic units in meeting their individual goals and facilitating collaboration and innovation in teaching programs.
  • Fundraising and the development of excellent external and internal relations across the LSU community and beyond. This includes building a strong COA alumni network.

Act on behalf of the Dean, play a key role in the development of programs of the colleges and schools; develop and recommend policies, procedures, initiatives, and strategies to advance the activities of the COA.Execute personnel transactions under general direction of the VP/Dean, and provide input on administrative matters including but not limited to information technology needs and direction, budgetary needs and opportunities, human resources initiatives, and facilities planning and use.

Be closely involved in the functions of branding, marketing, public relations, and communications for agriculture at LSU, with an emphasis on recruiting and teaching programs.

Represent the VP/Dean on committees and panels and at meetings and hearings as needed.Provide leadership in the evaluation of faculty as it relates to the teaching function.

Collaborate on research and extension activities of the LSU AgCenter and serving on the overall administrative team of the VP/Dean which also includes program leaders who administer the overall areas of animal sciences, plant sciences, food and nutrition, and 4-H youth development.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  Ph.D. or equivalent degree; notable scholastic record in teaching, research, outreach, and service sufficient to merit the rank of full Professor in one of the departments of the COA.  Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Special Requirements:  Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to operate a computer; ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) at a time.  Willingness and ability to work evenings/weekends, work on or off-campus facilities, and travel.  Additional duties and/or special projects may be incorporated into this position depending on the duties, skills and experience of the individual selected.  

Salary & Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  LSU has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent effort and length of employment.
