Job Description

Health Extension programs promote optimal health and well-being of individuals, families and communities, with special recognition for the needs of vulnerable populations.

The Health Program Associate will provide a link between the community, health educators and healthcare workers in assisting with implementing strategies to improve the health of individuals and the community. Duties include but are not limited to: Provide basic health education programs in a local community, based upon need. Coordinate community coalitions and events to address local health needs. Request educational program delivery from regional and campus faculty. Partner with Regional Specialist to co-teach programs when requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist supervisor to implement the daily operations of community health projects. This may include, but not limited to, recruiting and meeting with community agencies and professionals; providing educational programs; securing facilities for community wide events; event planning and preparation.
  • Responsible for collection of data and preparation of reports as required by the community project, University and funding agency requirements.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities for continued growth in knowledge, skills and abilities as it is related to the Family Nutrition Education Programs.
  • Assist with promoting and marketing programs and events.
  • Maintain positive relations with agency contacts. Make client referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist with recruiting and coordinating volunteers as needed.

Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans. Other duties and responsibilities will be expected to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.

LEADERSHIP RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Administrative supervision is received from County Engagement Specialist—Nutrition & Health. No supervision is exercised.

Salary

Salary Range: $12.24 - $13.00 an hour

Grade: GGS 005

Shift

Flexible hours including evenings and weekends is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associates' Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and some experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree or sixty (60) hours college credit, with an emphasis in Nutrition, Education, Human Development, Social Work, Consumer & Family Sciences, Public Health, or Communication.

Relevant work experience in Nutrition, Education, Human Development, Social Work, Consumer & Family Sciences, Public Health, or Communication can be substituted at a rate of one (1) year experience is equivalent to five (5) college credits—up to a maximum of ten (10) years. An additional nine (9)-ten (10) college credits will be required.

Ability to travel and to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
