Position Summary:

Farm to Early Care and Education (ECE ) is a critical strategy that addresses early childhood health by decreasing the risk of obesity through developing healthy eating habits, increasing access to fresh food, and experiential learning through food-related activities. Farm-to-ECE involves implementing one or more of three key elements: 1) procurement of local/regional food, 2) education with activities related to agriculture and foods, and 3) contact with growing food, such as through community or school gardens and/or local farm visits. Farm-to-ECE has been associated with increased fruit and vegetable consumption at school and at home, greater willingness to try new foods, and increased knowledge on healthy eating, gardening, farming, and a better awareness of where food comes from. In addition, Farm-to-ECE has an economic advantage for local producers, processors, and distributors.
