Primary Purpose of Position:
The Instructional Designer will work on-site for Cooperative Extension at North Carolina A&T State University, with a group of subject matter experts (SME’s) to coach and assist in creating instructor led training guides, online learning tools and supporting materials that follow a sound instructional design process. The goal is that the resulting materials assist end-users to perform tasks needed to successfully achieve the training program objectives. The Instructional Designer will create products that target Cooperative Extension audiences such as 4-H youth, small farmers, families, community leaders, agriculture and agribusiness.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners – North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system called North Carolina Cooperative Extension is formed. In addition to campus operations, Cooperative Extension at North Carolina A&T State University has professional staff in almost half of the 101 county Extension Centers located across the state.
Master’s degree from an accredited university in instructional design, curriculum, and instruction, or a related field is required; or a Bachelor’s degree in these or related fields in addition to five years work experience in the field or a bachelor’s degree and Instructional Design Certification from an accredited university or established instructional design educational entity and five years of work experience in the field.
- Strong written and verbal skills demonstrated in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage & pronunciation
- Knowledge & application of adult learning and pedagogy principles
– Ability to design youth- focused learning experiences
– Strong interpersonal skills in client interactions and a willingness to interact SME’s
– Formal training in instructional design and/or adult education
- 3-5 five years of experience developing instructional materials
– Knowledge of design software such as Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate etc.
Preferred Years of Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Masters or Ph.D. in instructional design, curriculum, and instruction, or related field.
Experience conducting instructor-led training in a non-school setting.
