Part-Time Instructor of English

The Department of English at South Dakota State University seeks a part-time (48%), non-tenure track Instructor of Composition with possible additional duties in teaching Technical Writing and Literature courses. Appointment will be a 9-month, part-time position beginning in August 2018.

Required qualifications include: 1) a Master's Degree in English by August 20, 2018; 2) a minimum of two years of composition teaching experience at the university level; 3) a demonstrated ability to teach both first- and second-year composition courses; 4) demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills; 5) demonstrated ability to teach, or demonstrate a willingness to teach, courses in both the face-to-face (on campus at SDSU) and the on-line environments; and 6) demonstrated ability to use D2L or comparable digital course management platforms.

Preferred qualifications include: 1) Demonstrate either an ability to, or interest in, teaching courses in Basic (Remedial) Writing, Technical Communication (including Technical Writing for Engineers), and Introduction to Literature; and 2) Demonstrate (either through teaching or graduate-level course work) either an ability to, or interest in, teaching American (ENGL 241 and 242) and British (ENGL 221 and 222) literature survey courses as well as Juvenile Literature (ENGL 240) courses.
