Research Assistant, Personalized Learning Consortium

Salary: $20/hour; 37.5 hours/week

Summary
The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), a research, policy and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public universities in the US, Canada and Mexico, is seeking two Temporary Research Assistants to support the Personalized Learning Consortium (PLC). These highly motivated individuals will provide research and administrative support for PLC activities. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment, have strong research, organizational and interpersonal skills, and possess a keen attention to detail. Background
APLU is a research, policy, and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public universities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With a membership of 241 public research universities, land-grant institutions, state university systems, and affiliated organizations, APLU's agenda is built on the three pillars of increasing degree completion and academic success, advancing scientific research, and expanding engagement. Annually, member campuses enroll 4.9 million undergraduates and 1.3 million graduate students, award 1.3 million degrees, employ 1.3 million faculty and staff, and conduct $44.9 billion in university-based research.

Operating currently under the auspices of the APLU, the Personalized Learning Consortium (PLC) is a separate membership organization of over 20 universities focusing on advancing the use of information technology to improve student learning, retention, and graduation. Its members cooperate to share experience and expertise, assess the market and identify promising and trustworthy vendors, influence data practices, and organize multi-institutional projects (e.g., to purchase or develop shared learning materials). Responsibilities
The Summer Research Assistant is responsible for providing research and administrative support which will include, but not be limited to:

Research

  • Conducting literature reviews and writing critical syntheses that address research directions.
  • Presenting results of data analyses and provide interpretation of such information.
  • Preparing, reviewing and editing project reports, research briefs and papers, and other relevant documents, ensuring they are complete, current and stored appropriately.
  • Identifying and collecting reports, professional papers, data, and other relevant information in an organized and proactive capacity.
  • Ensuring that quality control is maintained through all assigned tasks.
  • Developing presentation materials for targeted audiences.
  • Documenting and processing information using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF software.

Administrative

  • Anticipating, troubleshooting, overcoming, and/or escalating project challenges in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with calendaring, tracking correspondence and projects, and planning schedules of the PLC team members.
  • Supporting external grant writing and project management.
  • Providing other programmatic support as needed to support the goals and objectives of the project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework towards an advanced degree (MA, MS) preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to details in verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with quantitative and mixed-method research methods.
  • Experience with digital learning, online education, instructional design, technology enabled education/training, curriculum development and/or professional development.
  • Interest in working with digital content and learning technologies.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound judgment, participate as an effective team member, cooperate with co-workers and supervisors, and follow through assigned tasks to completion.
  • Commitment to improving education by serving institutions, advisors, instructors, and learners.
