Research Associate, Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center
Salary: $40,500 - $77,500

The Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine invites applications for a full-time Research Associate or Senior Research Associate.  The Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center is a nonpartisan, independent research and public service unit of the University of Maine.  The Policy Center is dedicated to improving and promoting the quality of public dialogue about state, regional, and national policy issues through applied policy research and community engagement.  Our research is interdisciplinary, cutting across departmental lines to bring together faculty, students, and external policy experts to address issues confronting Maine and the nation.  The Research Associate will help us fulfill this mission.

The candidate should have a strong educational background (ideally a graduate degree) in economics or policy-related discipline and have experience conducting policy research (preferably at least a few years).  The job requires analytical and technical expertise in policy analysis, such as economic impact analysis, statistics, econometrics, and/or GIS.  Superior communication skills are also necessary, as much of the research will be addressed to policymakers and the general public.  The candidate will be expected to work well in research teams as well as conduct independent policy analyses.  Ideally, the candidate will help develop and write proposals for research funding.

Salary will be commensurate will education and experience, but probably within the range of $40,500 to $77,500, plus full University benefits.  The likely start date will be between July 1st and September 1st.

To apply send a cover letter, resume, and a list of at least three (but no more than five) references along with their contact information.  Although not required, applications could also include a short writing sample (a research report or policy brief) and/or recent graduate transcript.  Applications received by May 15th will receive full consideration.  Applications must be submitted at:
