Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM) the winner of its 2017 Project Degree Completion Award during a ceremony at its annual meeting in Washington, DC. The annual Project Degree Completion Award identifies and honors institutions using innovative strategies or programs to increase retention and graduation outcomes and/or decrease achievement gaps. To markedly boost graduation rates, UHM launched its Student Engagement, Retention, and Graduation plan in 2007.

Washington, DC – In recognition of its extraordinary global engagement efforts, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named the University of Calgary the winner of its 2017 Institutional Award for Global Learning, Research & Engagement. The award recognizes institutions at the leading edge of inclusive and comprehensive efforts to internationalize their campuses.

Washington, DC – In recognition of extraordinary community outreach, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named Oklahoma State University (OSU) the winner of the 2017 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award during a ceremony at the group’s annual meeting in Washington, DC.

Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named three winners of its sixth annual Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University Awards. The winners – Iowa State University, Kansas State University, and the University of Maryland – competed in four different categories that recognize different components of economic engagement. Iowa State University won the “talent” category and Kansas State University won the “innovation” category. The University of Maryland won both the “place” and top-prize in the competition, the “economic engagement connections” award, becoming the first university to become win IEP University Awards winner in multiple categories or in multiple years.

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today sent the following letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady and Ranking Member Richard Neal that details significant concerns public research universities have with H.R. 1, the Tax Cut and Jobs Act. The letter, which lays out a series of specific provisions that would make college less accessible and affordable and harm our nation’s long-term economic potential, was also sent to each House and Senate office.
