APLU Strongly Condemns Growing Number of Anti-Semitic Incidents on College Campuses

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding the growing incidences of anti-Semitic activity on college campuses.

“APLU and the public university community strongly condemn all forms of anti-Semitic activity on college campuses and across society. The growing number of incidents on campuses demand that we, as the public university community, speak out to forcefully and emphatically denounce these cowardly acts of hate against Jews and affirm the importance of the Jewish community on our campuses.

“Sadly, some of the most sinister elements of society have grown more comfortable emerging from the shadows in recent years with purposeful, hate-inspired misinformation and lies seeking to sow anti-Semitism in others. Public universities must and will be relentless in their efforts to ensure all students, faculty, and staff, including those who are Jewish, always feel safe and welcome on campus.

“As Jews around the world celebrate Hanukkah this week, we are reminded of the importance of valuing and protecting religious freedom for all. We are also reminded during this Festival of Lights that it is incumbent upon us all to fill college campuses and society with sustained light that will drive away darkness.”
