Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Association of American Universities (AAU) hosted the inaugural University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase on Capitol Hill tonight, spotlighting 21 startup companies that have created products born out of federally funded, university-based research. House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, House Science Committee Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson, and House Small Business Committee Chairman Steve Chabot all delivered remarks at the event.

Washington, DC – Public universities have made key strides in evolving their technology transfer activities, but must take additional steps to address the demands of the innovation economy, according to a new report the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) released today.

Washington, DC – Public universities must renew their commitment to student and workforce needs, a new study the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) released today asserts. The report, Ready for Jobs, Careers, and a Lifetime: Public Research Universities and Credentials that Count, says that public universities need to not only help prepare their students for a successful life through a general education, but also address workforce needs and prepare students to thrive throughout their professional career. The report also lays out several concrete steps public universities can take to do exactly that.

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson yesterday wrote to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch and Ranking Member Ron Wyden detailing strong concerns that public research universities have with provisions in the version of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act that the Senate Finance Committee is expected to markup this week. The letter, which was also sent to each House and Senate office, notes that those provisions would ultimately impact the services students receive and tuition they pay, and impede efforts to develop the highly-skilled workforce needed to propel our nation’s economy forward.
