Washington, DC – In recognition of their extraordinary community outreach initiatives, four member universities of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) have been selected as regional winners of the 2018 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award. As regional winners, Ball State University, University of Florida, Texas Tech, and Virginia Tech will represent and compete for the national C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award, which will be announced during the APLU Annual Meeting November 11-13 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Washington, DC – Continuing their call for Congress and the administration to enact critical measures to ensure the United States maintains its role as global innovation leader, the organizers of a coalition of more than 500 businesses, scientific organizations, and research universities in all 50 states today issued a progress report that details why Congress and the White House must do more to maintain and expand America’s innovation advantage. While the report details some important achievements, particularly recent funding boosts for research, the organizers of “Innovation: An American Imperative” warn that the U.S. continues to risks falling behind other nations that are urgently advancing conditions to foster growth in research, science, education, and other innovation overall.

Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Association of American Universities (AAU) hosted the inaugural University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase on Capitol Hill tonight, spotlighting 21 startup companies that have created products born out of federally funded, university-based research. House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, House Science Committee Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson, and House Small Business Committee Chairman Steve Chabot all delivered remarks at the event.
