Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, and House Committee on Education and the Workforce Ranking Member Bobby Scott raising very serious concerns with the Promoting Real Opportunity, Success, and Prosperity through Higher Education Reform (PROSPER) Act, H.R.4508. In the letter, McPherson noted APLU’s strong opposition to the bill in its current form. The House Committee on Education and Workforce approved the measure last month.

Washington, DC – As the House and Senate move toward a conference committee to reconcile differences in their versions of the tax legislation, Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today sent the following letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, Ranking Member Richard Neal, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch and Ranking Member Ron Wyden. The letter details key provisions public research universities believe should be protected in the final version of the legislation to help make college more accessible and affordable and to promote the nation’s economic prosperity.

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson yesterday wrote to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch and Ranking Member Ron Wyden detailing strong concerns that public research universities have with provisions in the version of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act that the Senate Finance Committee is expected to markup this week. The letter, which was also sent to each House and Senate office, notes that those provisions would ultimately impact the services students receive and tuition they pay, and impede efforts to develop the highly-skilled workforce needed to propel our nation’s economy forward.
