Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators today applauded the introduction of the Senator Paul Simon Study Abroad Act by U.S. Senators Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.). The bipartisan bill would vastly expand study abroad opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students and increase the share of students who graduate with study abroad experience.

Washington, D.C. — In recognition of their extraordinary global engagement efforts, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities today named Arizona State University; the University of California, San Diego; The Ohio State University; and the University of Minnesota as finalists for its inaugural Institutional Award for Global Learning, Research & Engagement. The award recognizes institutions at the leading edge of inclusive and comprehensive efforts to internationalize their campuses. The winner will be announced during the 2016 APLU Annual Meeting November 13-15 in Austin, Texas.

Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today announced Dr. Judy Genshaft, President and CEO of the University of South Florida System, as the 2016 recipient of the Michael P. Malone International Leadership Award for her work championing comprehensive internationalization efforts in higher education. The Malone Award, a national honor presented by APLU and awarded annually, recognizes individuals who further international education at public universities.

Washington, DC -- Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson, who previously served as Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, today released the following statement regarding House passage of the Global Food Security Act of 2016, which was previously approved in the Senate. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) introduced the bipartisan measure in the Senate and Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) introduced the measure in the House. The bill now moves to the White House for President Obama’s signature.
