Washington, DC – As college and university leaders continue to innovate new ways to help more students stay in school and graduate, a broad consensus is growing about how holistic, campus-wide, proactive advising systems are driving student success in significant ways. But implementing such systems, which often involves changes to institutional structures, policies and practices while integrating the use of technology and data analytics, can be complicated, costly and time consuming. While some schools have excelled at employing these systems, frequently referred to as Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success (IPASS), many institutions find themselves aware of the vast benefits, but uncertain of how to proceed with implementing such a system on their own campus.

Washington, DC – Following up on their call for Congress and the president to enact critical measures to ensure the United States maintains its role as global innovation leader, the organizers of a coalition of more than 500 businesses, scientific organizations, and universities in all 50 states today issued a progress report that charges Congress and the White House must do more to maintain and expand America’s innovation advantage. While the report details some important achievements, the organizers of “Innovation: An American Imperative” warn that the U.S. risks falling behind other nations that are doubling down on investments in research, science, education, and other innovation-related policies.

Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today testified on Capitol Hill as a public witness before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. McPherson urged the panel to approve funding that would restore the year-round Pell grant program and increase investments for biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health. Washington, DC – Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today issued the following statement regarding tomorrow’s congressional convening of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) on Capitol Hill. The association’s membership includes 23 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), of which 21 are land-grant institutions (19 under the 1890 Morrill Act, two under the 1862 Morrill Act).
