Today, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 9-11:30 AM (EST), the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU) will present Innovation Challenge Pitch: Student Success 3.0, a funding competition featuring six public research institutions. At stake is $160,000 in innovation funds to be awarded that day, by a panel of judges, before attendees at the APLU Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana. Conference attendees will vote via the conference app to award $5,000 to their favorite pitcher.
APLU is helping to drive a new push on the Close the Innovation Deficit effort: a letter signed by more than 130 national organizations was sent to Congress today. Also, the Department of Education released its widely anticipated gainful employment rule and the White House has request emergency funding to fight the Ebola crisis.
As part of its ongoing effort to help member institutions magnify their economic impact, APLU recently announced finalists for its 2015 Innovation & Economic Prosperity University Awards. In this final installment in a three-part series, APLU spotlights Auburn University and Ohio University, finalists in the “Place” IEP Awards category, for excelling in community, social, and cultural development work.
