Washington, DC – The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) has named 175 leaders of academic invention to NAI Fellow status. Seventy-six fellows named in the class of 2016 are from APLU institutions.
Last week, APLU President Peter McPherson received the President’s Global Leadership Award from the University of South Florida during the institution’s fall commencement ceremonies. The award is the highest recognition the University of South Florida bestows to individuals for their contributions and accomplishments in international affairs.
APLU named the winners of its four 2016 institutional awards at the APLU Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas, November 13-15. The awards recognize excellence in student success and degree completion; economic development; community engagement; as well as global learning, research, and engagement.
Last week, APLU President Peter McPherson sent a letter to President-elect Trump urging him to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and to ensure personal information students provided in DACA applications are not used for immigration enforcement. This Obama administration executive action provides deferred status from deportation and the potential for work authorization to undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States before the age of 16, who have been in the U.S. continuously at least since 2007, and who have applied for and received the deferred status, among other requirements.
