Webinar: New Diversity, STEM Pipeline & Health Workforce Toolkit to Launch Monday, June 26

Urban Universities for HEALTH (Health Equity through Alignment, Leadership, and Transformation of the Health workforce) – a partnership between APLU, the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU), and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) created with funding from the National Institutes of Health has developed an interactive, web-based toolkit to help universities better develop a more diverse and culturally competent health and biomedical research workforce. Urban Universities for HEALTH will unveil the toolkit during a webinar on Monday, June 26, 3:00-4:00 p.m. EST. Click here to register for the webinar now.

University leaders, diversity professionals, public health experts, funding agencies, and all others with interest in preparing the future health workforce are invited to attend. The toolkit is intended to help universities play a role in improving access to care and reducing health disparities through workforce development. With the best practices and strategies outlined in the toolkit, universities can help better address health inequities in their communities by recruiting and educating a workforce that is prepared to meet the needs of a diverse patient population.

The toolkit includes:

  • An interactive web-based tool to select strategies, indicators, and measures that align with an institution’s unique mission and local needs;
  • A white paper exploring the context for the toolkit’s indicators and the related evidence base;
  • Example case studies from the Urban Universities for HEALTH demonstration sites to highlight best practices using the strategies and data in the toolkit;
  • Sample institutional dashboards to demonstrate how data might be displayed;

Webinar speakers include:

  • Natalie Bourke, President and CEO, CommonHealth ACTION
  • Marc Nivet, Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
  • Eliseo J. Pérez-Stable, Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
