Webinar on APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity Universities Designation April 2

The APLU Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness, and Economic Prosperity’s Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) Universities program will host an informational webinar on Monday, April 2nd from 1-2 pm EDT. The IEP Universities program was created in 2013 to recognize universities that are committed to spurring and promoting regional economic development and helping these institutions advance their work in university economic engagement. More than 58 universities have earned the designation since the program’s inception.

APLU members as well as non-APLU members interested in learning more about the IEP Universities program are encouraged to register for the event. The webinar will explore different dimensions of the program, such as:

  • IEP designation criteria;
  • IEP designation process timeline;
  • IEP awards;
  • Foundations of the IEP designation and awards framework; and
  • Strategies for developing an effective application.

Institutions participating in the program report that its in-depth application process leads to insights about economic engagement efforts, strengthens relationships with campus members and community partners, and in some cases leads to the formation of new collaborations, initiatives, and/or programs.

Dr. Robert H. Jones, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Clemson University, noted that “Clemson’s participation in the IEP university designation process led to a new vision for the type of organizational structure that will most effectively serve our efforts in the future.” Similarly, Dr. John M. Mason, Jr., Vice President for Research & Economic Development at Auburn University, observed that the IEP Universities program “provided us with a thorough internal review of our economic development and engagement activity, and enabled us to be both strategic and deliberate in planning for the future.”

If you would like to learn more about the program process, timeline, and/or benefits please register for the webinar! Interested in taking the next step with the IEP University designation? Connect with current designees, aspirational campuses and APLU staff during the 5th Annual IEP Universities Workshop scheduled to take place in Richmond, Virginia on June 28 in conjunction with the 2018 CEO-CICEP Summer Meeting, APLU’s premier conference dedicated to university-based economic development and community engagement.
