APLU has created a Task Force on Tenure, Promotion, and Technology Transfer (TPTT) that will focus on the appropriate consideration of technology transfer in faculty personnel decisions. (Note that the Task Force will work in parallel with the recently announced APLU Task Force on Managing University Intellectual Property.) After conducting a survey of current practices among APLU members, the TPTT Task Force will make recommendations to APLU and its membership on appropriate criteria and the assessment of technology transfer work as part of faculty advancement reviews.

July 10, 2014—Higher education and library organizations, representing thousands of colleges, universities, and libraries nationwide, including APLU, released a joint set of Net Neutrality Principles they recommend form the basis of an upcoming Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision to protect the openness of the Internet. The groups believe network neutrality protections are essential to protecting freedom of speech, educational achievement, and economic growth.

July 10, 2014 -- In recognition of a strong commitment to economic engagement, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today designated 14 public institutions as Innovation & Economic Prosperity Universities. The designation acknowledges universities working with public and private sector partners in their states and regions to support economic development through a variety of activities, including innovation and entrepreneurship, technology transfer, talent and workforce development, and community development. Each university received the designation after conducting a thorough self-review with outside stakeholder input and subsequently submitting an application that went through a rigorous independent review process.
