Washington, DC— Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) President Peter McPherson today released the following statement regarding U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s meeting with him and 11 public university presidents and chancellors from across the country. The university leaders are all members of the APLU Board of Directors, which has its annual winter meeting beginning tonight.

Washington, DC — In an effort to prevent low-income college students nearing graduation from dropping out, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and Temple University today announced they will work on a five-year project to improve and grow small-dollar completion grants aimed at ensuring such students complete their degree. The U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is funding the $3.98 million grant, which will evaluate and work to enhance completion grants at up to 10 APLU member institutions.

Austin, TX – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today announced its 2017 Board of Directors. At a ceremony during the association’s 129th Annual Meeting, University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan became Chair of the Board, taking over for University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little. The Board of Directors provides oversight and direction for APLU’s work and is charged with setting membership and governing policies for the association. Board members work to make public institutions of higher education more effective in delivering high quality and affordable higher education alongside cutting-edge research and robust community and economic engagement.
