The Minority Male in STEM Initiative (MMSI) is designed to increase the recruitment and matriculation of underrepresented minority (URM) males in the STEM disciplines at public universities.

Urban Initiatives
The Transformational Planning Grant supports a cohort of seven public urban research universities as they spend a year planning and designing new business models and innovative approaches to increase access, improve success rates and find greater cost efficiencies.

APLU and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) developed Project Degree Completion in which nearly 500 public colleges and universities have pledged to collectively award 3.8 million more degrees by 2025.
Access & Diversity
The purpose of the Commission on Access, Diversity and Excellence Summer Meeting is to build a network of institutions that are committed to implementing an action-oriented agenda to improve student outcomes by convening university presidents, provosts, chief diversity officers, student affairs professionals, and enrollment managers to develop and share campus-based strategies.
STEM Education
APLU is one of 37 of the first-ever NSF INCLUDES pilot grants. INCLUDES is the NSF acronym for (Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoveries in Engineering and Sciences). The program aims to create alliances and partnerships to broaden participation in the STEM workforce by improving access to STEM education and career pathways at a significant national scale.

The HBCU ICE Collaborative is a cohort of 15 public and private HBCUs that are committed to participating in a multi-year collaboration that will foster innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship on their respective campuses to improve student success by implementing new institutional courses, transforming faculty pedagogy and creating partnerships with government and private industries.

The Project Degree Completion Award recognize universities that have made significant progress in successfully retaining and graduating students while promoting those schools as models for other institutions.

Concerned about the complexities and practicality of the Obama administration’s college ratings plan, APLU developed a proposal that shares the underlying broad goals of improved transparency and accountability, but does not rate or rank institutions.
