Washington, DC —The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU) today announced grants to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Virginia Commonwealth University, comprising the first cohort of its Seeding Innovation to Deliver 21st Century Skills project. The grants support university partnerships with community stakeholders aimed at removing institutional barriers that prevent success for low-income students and prepare them for the 21st Century workforce. The awards, known as Collaborative Opportunity Grants, support innovative approaches that link preparation for the workforce to an institution’s community engagement. The three-year project is funded through a grant from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.

Washington, DC – The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) co-led Aspire: The National Alliance for Inclusive & Diverse STEM Faculty today announced two new grants to groups of universities and partners to catalyze collaborative efforts to deepen the use of inclusive STEM teaching practices and increase diversity among STEM faculty. The grants, part of Aspire’s IChange Initiative, are designed to help participating institutions advance effective practices that address institutional barriers to a more diverse STEM faculty.

The showcase will spotlight 22 startup companies from across the nation that have created products and services using federally funded, university-based research.

A new framework to support the development and scaling of certification-degree pathways has been published today by Workcred – an affiliate of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) – in partnership with the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU), and the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA). This collaborative, nationwide initiative that culminated in the development of the framework was made possible by a grant from Lumina Foundation.

Washington, DC – In recognition of its extraordinary global learning, research, and engagement efforts, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named the University of California, Davis the Platinum Award level winner of the 2020 Institutional Award for Global Learning, Research & Engagement. The Platinum Award is APLU’s highest-level award granted to a member institution in recognition of inclusive and comprehensive efforts to internationalize their campus. The University of Pittsburgh and Virginia Commonwealth University were recognized for their internationalization efforts as recipients of Gold Level Awards. The Gold Level award recognizes institutions that have excelled in one of the four dimensions of internationalization.
