Staff Highlights

Jon Elkin joined the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS) on a congressional advocacy panel April 1 on Grad PLUS Loans, Federal Work-Study, and Child Care Access Means Parents in Schools (CCAMPIS). He worked with the Student Aid Alliance to organize a congressional staff panel March 27 on Pell Grants and other federal student aid programs with a George Mason University student leader. He served on a February 26 panel on GI Bill issues with other higher education groups, organized by the National Association of Veterans’ Program Administrators.

APLU’s Alvaro J. Muñiz, Director in APLU’s Office for International, Community, and Economic Engagement, spoke on a panel about the critical partnership that is required for a high-functioning innovation ecosystem and what is on the horizon for the tech transfer industry in the near future at the AUTM  Annual Meeting.

APLU’s MacGregor Obergfell spoke on a panel about the Department of Education’s Title IV international education programs at the National Humanities Alliance Annual Meeting. 

APLU’s Robin Parent served as a panelist discussing innovative approaches to address systemic barriers, promote inclusivity, and cultivate diverse learning environments for student veterans and post-traditional students at the Student Veterans of American symposium on March 5.

APLU’s Alvaro Muñiz will present on the ROI of APLU’s IEP program at the University Economic Development Association Summit in early October alongside colleague Caydan Henslee.

APLU’s Bernard Mair spoke on incorporating data metrics in tenure and promotion processes at the Make Data Count Summit in Washington, DC.

APLU’s Julia Chadwick and Megan Tesene presented on using digital courseware to help drive course redesign efforts in gateway courses at Gardner Institute’s Symposium on Transforming the Foundational Postsecondary Experience. They shared lessons from previous grant work, highlighting the strategies and practices university exemplars employed to cultivate faculty buy-in, build relationships among campus stakeholders, and support departmental-level efforts to adopt new technologies and implement quality pedagogy in gateway courses at scale.

APLU’s Megan Tesene is presenting at the Educause Annual ELI Meeting on applications of digital courseware in gateway courses to improve learning and equity.

APLU’s Denise Nadasen is presenting at the Association of Institutional Research Annual Forum on building an effective data culture.

APLU’s Alvaro J. Muñiz appeared on the University at Albany’s Engagement Ring podcast to speak about APLU’s Innovation & Economic Prosperity University Designation.
