Register now!

We hope you will join us for the 2019 HBCU Engineering Faculty Workshop funded by National Science Foundation, taking place in Nashville, TN at Tennessee State University on May 22 – May 24, 2019.

This summer in place of the annual HBCU Summit we will bring together faculty in engineering from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for a workshop on pedagogy that improves student learning; innovative strategies for mentoring and advising that improve student retention and graduation rates; and tools and strategies for developing grant proposals and effectively competing in national grant solicitations. The cohort will be led by an experienced engineering educator who will guide them in developing projects and grant proposals that support the work of the cohort members. The goal of the workshop is to assist HBCU engineering faculty in becoming more effective and strategic educators, advisors, and researchers.

The major aims of the 2019 HBCU Engineering Workshop are to:

  • Develop action plans aimed at:
    • Improving student learning
    • Increasing student retention and graduation rates Identify tools and strategies needed to develop grant proposals and to compete effectively in national grant solicitations
  • Developing a research grant proposal outline
  • Establishing a national network of HBCU faculty who will implement high impact and innovative pedagogical practices in engineering education

Expected Outcomes

  • Disseminate STEM tool-kit framework of engineering pedagogy, strategies, and resources used in course delivery
  • Outline a STEM-focused faculty research agenda
  • Submit a STEM-focused competitive national grant proposal
  • Demonstrate partnerships outside of the classroom, (i.e. HBCU network collaboration, corporate partnerships, internships for students, STEM-focused partnerships)

The 2019 HBCU Engineering Faculty Workshop agenda will be filled with impactful and educational breakout sessions that you can't afford to miss!

We hope to see you in Nashville in May.
