Academic Dean

The University of South Carolina seeks applications and nominations for a visionary, experienced leader for the position of Dean of the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM). The university is searching for a leader who, through example, will epitomize both academic excellence and the best of the consumer-experience industry culture of collaboration, inclusion, mentorship, and innovation. The dean is expected be a transformational and collaborative leader who acts with integrity and possesses the ability to communicate with diverse constituents, fosters collegiality and clarity in the decision-making process and provides strong leadership to advance the school’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusive excellence.

Required Education and Experience 

An earned doctorate (or its equivalent) and possess the qualifications – gained through academic or relevant industry endeavors – to receive a tenured appointment as full professor. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Terminal degree from an accredited institution;  
  • Credentials appropriate for appointment as a Full Professor in one of the HRSM units (School/ Departments);  
  • Familiarity with and enthusiasm for the unique academic areas and industries the College of HRSM represents;  
  • Academic leadership experience in a department/ school/college or other significant academic administrative role (that includes such areas as budgeting, curriculum, personnel, and planning);  
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Leadership experience at a research-intensive university;  
  • Industry/professional experience in at least one of the fields in the HRSM;  
  • Significant experience in successful fundraising with various publics;  
  • Global/international network of scholars and professionals.
