About This Role:

The Departments of Interior Design and Fashion Studies (IDFS) and Hospitality Management (HM), both within the College of Health and Human Sciences, are seeking an Academic Services Coordinator to join their team. This position will provide administrative support to the department heads and faculty for accreditations, assessments, and strategic planning within the departments. The Academic Services Coordinator will also be responsible for the departments' public relations efforts, crafting communications to stakeholders and current and prospective students. This position reports to the IDFS and HM Department Heads.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


• Provide accreditation and strategic planning support for three academic programs (Hospitality Management, Fashion, and Interior Design) and public-facing efforts, such as the Historic Costume and Textile Museum and Lacy's Fresh Fare and Catering

• Work in conjunction with department heads, faculty, and staff to plan, develop and grow academic student services, recruit new students, and promote student and alumni success in attaining credentials

• Support faculty and administration's strategic planning and decision making through data management, record keeping, and assembling information

• Plan and implement well-designed and articulate communications in digital and print formats (i.e., website, social media, press releases)

• Provide support to departments while working with the college to plan, promote, and host special events for current and prospective students

• Participate in service to the programs, departments, college, and university

The Department of Interior Design and Fashion Studies is an inviting and supportive unit that serves 275 undergraduate students on the beautiful Kansas State University Campus in Manhattan KS. The department offers two B.S. degrees: one in Interior Design and another in Fashion Studies (with specializations in Fashion Design and Fashion Business). The graduate program offers resident Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Fashion Studies with a distance M.S. degree specialization in Merchandising through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GPIDEA). The department has well-equipped design and research laboratories and is home to the KSU Historic Costume & Textile Museum. Department programs are accredited through the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission (TAPAC), and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Department of Hospitality Management is comprised of an accredited undergraduate program (ACPHA) with approximately 130 students, and MS and Ph.D. graduate programs with 20 students. Currently staffed by seven full-time faculty members, the department cooperates with hospitality organizations and other entities to provide hands-on experience for students. Faculty collaborate with researchers in business, agriculture, food science, KSU Research & Extension, psychology, and other disciplines in dynamic and innovative research ventures. The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology) and the Center on Aging. In addition, the college received approval from the Kansas Board of Regents to begin a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program and to serve as a satellite location for the WSU nursing program. What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:


• Bachelor's degree

• Three years of relevant experience

• This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager


Preferred Qualifications:


• Degree in public communications, marketing, or similar discipline

• Knowledge of the Hospitality Management, Fashion Studies, and/or Interior Design disciplines

• Experience with public speaking and writing communications for public consumption

• Knowledge of higher education academic standards, policies, and expectations for student success

• Knowledge of demographic trends impacting higher education student recruitment and student populations, as well as best practices in supporting students and prospective students

• Understanding of higher education functions and roles, including the responsibilities of the faculty

• Experience working in and leading teams

• Awareness of academic program accreditation systems, standards, and expectations

• Graphic design skills to create professional and compelling digital and print marketing publications

• Expertise in the use of Peoplesoft, EAB Navigate, PowerBI, and other digital programs and systems for managing information

• Ability to take excellent photographs for publication

• Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills

• Capacity to assess risk and apply appropriate mitigations and adaptations to minimize risk

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$21.51 - $27.43 per hour
