Accounts Payable Supervisor

South Dakota State University (SDSU), Department of Finance and Budget, is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Accounts Payable Supervisor for the SDSU campus as well as the South Dakota Board of Regents (BOR) Accounts Payable Shared Service Center. This position is supervised by the Director of Shared Services.

POSITION PURPOSE: The Accounts Payable Supervisor will manage all operations of the SD BOR Accounts Payable Shared Service Center as well as the SDSU Accounts Payable Office to ensure vendor payments are processed accurately and timely. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible, non-faculty exempt position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will provide focus and oversight of all payments made by SDSU University departments and provide guidance and ensure compliance for all SDBOR payments by enforcing all state and university policies and procedures. The successful candidate will demonstrate capability in meeting operational needs, continually looking for efficiencies, and apply development, execution, and improvement of action plans. This position will provide and support the implementation of business solutions and be able to lead and coordinate activities in a collegial and collaborative environment.

SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensure the overall success of the SDBOR AP Shared Service Center and the SDSU Campus Accounts Payable office.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of all Accounts Payable procedures, rules and regulations and review and update policy.
  • Communicate changes and exchange ideas with BOR campus AP administrators and enforce consistency of policy across the BOR system.
  • Manage and coordinate the AP payment processing schedule and ensure reconciliation and compliance with appropriate State Offices.
  • Oversee the 1099 and K1 transaction process for the BOR system.
  • Coordinate fiscal year end processes and deadlines.
  • Understand the University financial system thoroughly, be a resource and test all upgrades.
  • Directly lead a team of five by continuing to develop, mentor and promote cross training and continual efforts to increase efficiencies.
  • Coordinate training efforts of all SDSU departmental accounts payable staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

§ Leadership skills.

§ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field completed by date of application.

§ At least one year of related experience.

§ Decision making, problem solving and analytical skills.

§ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

§ Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

§ Experience with automated Accounts Payable systems/processing

§ Experience with Banner software/processes

§ Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

§ Experience with process improvement programs

§ Previous experience with Higher Education sector

§ Supervisory, leadership, management, training, or work direction experience

This unit also includes the BOR Shared Service Centers of Payroll and Shared International Employment Services as well as the SDSU Purchasing Office.
