JOB SUMMARY:

Manage all aspects of the Clemson Organic Certification program through adherence to National Organic Program regulations and Clemson Department of Plant Industry policies and mandates. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

40% - Essential - Manage day to day operations of the Clemson Organic Certification Program including conducting program oversight, ensuring NOP accreditation compliance, making certification decisions, ensuring appropriate records and data retention, and assisting clients with certification.

25% - Essential - Supervise all Clemson Organic Certification Program assigned staff. Conduct annual and/or semi-annual reviews of staff in conjunction with Clemson policy and National Organic Program requirements. Provide training opportunities as needed. Perform time-keeping responsibilities for all staff directly supervised.

20% - Essential - Participate in educational and public outreach activities, including farmer/processor groups, organizations and committees, mass-media appearances and classroom presentations for the Department of Plant Industry and in cooperation with other elements of the University and other State and Federal agencies to promote the Clemson Organic Certification Program and to provide educational workshops for South Carolina citizens.

15% - Essential - Perform routine announced and unannounced inspections for the Clemson Organic Certification Program. Perform other Department of Plant Industry work as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree (Agriculture, Applied Science, Food Safety or related field)
Licenses - South Carolina Drivers License (Class D Normal)
Work Exp 3+ years

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Master's Degree (Horticulture or other Ag or Science related field)
Work Exp 3-5 years of managing and supervising personnel
IOIA Basic Crop, Livestock, and Handler/Processing Training or equivalent

RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB KNOWLEDGE
Comprehensive Job Knowledge - Comprehensive knowledge of theories and practices and ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Work of Others - Manages work of others including hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Budget Input - Provides input into the budgeting process, and oversees fund allocation.
