South Dakota State University (SDSU) is offering an exciting opportunity to join the growing academic and research program in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences as a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry. This position is a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track faculty appointment with a competitive start-up package. Faculty rank and salary package will be commensurate with qualifications and policy. This position is supervised by the department head of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to teaching medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations and can contribute to the growing research program in cancer, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular, infectious disease, genomics, and drug delivery. COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS:
The College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions has three departments: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy Practice, and Population and Allied Health. With 50 faculty, the College serves approximately 700 students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program, the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences program, the B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program, and an A.S. and B.S. in Respiratory Care program. The College also provides administrative support and leadership for the University’s Master of Public Health program. The College has a strong reputation for high-quality pharmacy and MLS education in the region and around the country. The pharmacy program has consistently maintained a high pass-rate (97-100%) in the national pharmacy licensure exam. Since becoming NAACLS accredited in 2010, the MLS program has maintained a 98% pass rate on the ASCP Board exam. The College has a growing Ph.D. program, having graduated 40 students over the last 13 years. The Ph.D. graduates are well-placed in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and regulatory agencies in the U.S. and other countries.
With a strong alumni base, the College has received multiple endowments from generous donors. The Department has several issued patents that are licensed to start-up companies. The Department has collaborations with clinician-scientists and biomedical researchers at Sanford Research and Avera Cancer Research Institute in Sioux Falls, SD.
The ‘home’ of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the State-of-the-Art Avera Health and Science Center, providing 97,000 square-feet of teaching laboratory, classroom, and office space, as well as 48,600 square-feet of research laboratory space. The Department is well-equipped with the start of the art instrumentation for pharmaceutical and biomedical research. The University has core-facilities in mass spectrometry, NMR, and genomics, and a centralized animal facility for small and large animal research. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has 10 faculty members including two endowed faculty positions. The Department’s research efforts are focused on cancer, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, cell signaling, genomics, drug/vaccine delivery, and nanotechnology.
