The Biology and Microbiology Department at South Dakota State University is offering an opportunity as Assistant Professor in Molecular Biology and Genetics. We are looking for candidates with an interest in teaching, experience in research, an interest in multidisciplinary research collaborations, and strong backgrounds in areas that will complement the existing research programs at South Dakota State University. This is a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track position, which is supervised by the Department Head of Biology and Microbiology. The position start date is August of 2021.
SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate is expected to teach a core, 2-course sequence in Genetics, and Molecular and Cellular Biology to 2nd year biology majors and to establish a strong research program with an emphasis on human/mammalian health and disease. This research can include but is not limited to biomedical sciences, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, or gene editing. Successful candidates must have or demonstrate potential to obtain significant extramural research funding from programs, such as NIH, NSF, USDA, or other funding sources. The candidate will be expected to engage and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and enhance learning experiences, and collaborate with scientists across disciplines, including scientists of the Agricultural Experiment Station. This position consists of a 50% teaching and 50% research appointment.
• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical or Veterinary Sciences, or a closely related field.
• Show strong interest in teaching biology to undergraduate or graduate students through lecture or laboratory instruction.
• Show potential for research productivity through publications in peer reviewed journals, books, book chapters, or patents.
• Display strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
