The School of American & Global Studies at South Dakota State University seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in American Indian & Indigenous Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2023. We seek an engaged interdisciplinary candidate who combines scholarly work on pressing Indigenous issues with a demonstrated record of deep commitments to Native American communities. The area of specialization is open; diverse interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological approaches rooted in Native American & Indigenous Studies are encouraged. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the curriculum of the American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program, including courses that are part of the general education core. The School sustains an undergraduate curriculum of American Indian studies of the Americas, with more recent openings to broader framings of global Indigenous studies. We welcome candidates who will offer an array of American Indian & Indigenous Studies courses that draw on their expertise.
This is a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible position, and is supervised by the Director of the School of American and Global Studies. The School of American & Global Studies is a vibrant, interdisciplinary unit, offering B.S./B.A. degrees in American Indian & Indigenous Studies, Global Studies, History, Modern Languages (French, German, Lakota, Spanish), and Political Science. The School also offers standalone minors in Legal Studies, Philosophy, and Religion. In alignment with the university’s land-grant mission, the School houses three public-facing research and outreach centers: The SDSU Ethics Lab, The SDSU PHI | Public Humanities Institute, and the SDSU Poll.
