The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), a research, policy and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public universities in the US, Canada and Mexico, is seeking an associate to provide administrative support to the Board on Human Sciences (BoHS), the Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET), and Cooperative Extension (CE). The incumbent will perform a broad array of administrative tasks to ensure effective office operations including planning conferences, webinars, and meetings; managing on- and off-site meeting logistics; scheduling meetings and coordinating calendars; website and social media updates; and, overseeing the payment of invoices and solicitation of CARET delegates. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to handle these daily operations, sometimes under pressure, while being proactive, resourceful, efficient, and professional. The Board on Human Sciences (BoHS) is an association of administrators of higher education units responsible for research/discovery, extension/outreach, and teaching/learning programs in the human sciences at universities across the country. The BoHS is one of five boards under APLU’s Commission on Food, Environment, and Renewable Resources (CFERR). The field of human sciences covers a wide range of disciplines (food science/nutrition, health management/wellness; human development/family relations; and, many more). Their members are committed to a national agenda that unifies disciplines within and beyond the human sciences to enrich people’s lives. The disciplines under the BoHS solve practical, recurring problems that individuals, families, and communities face.
The Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET) is a national voluntary citizens' organization whose grassroots membership supports the agricultural research, extension, and teaching programs of the land-grant university system and is comprised of agricultural producers, commodity leaders, agribusiness leaders, state and local officials, homemakers, consumers, and members of agricultural advisory boards from each state and territory. CARET seeks to enhance national support for and understanding of the land-grant university system’s food and agricultural research, extension, and teaching programs that enhance the quality of life for all people.
Cooperative Extension (CE) is a Congressionally established, educational system designed to connect communities to land-grant universities (LGU) and to help people use research-based knowledge to improve their lives. Cooperative Extension is coordinated at the national level by the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP), a leadership and governing board representing the 76 state, territory, and 1890 LGU Extension Programs.
